The It Ends With Us coloring book might have met an early end, but the It Ends With Us movie is just beginning. Colleen Hoover confirmed today that the film adaptation of her bestselling BookTok favorite has found its lead actors. Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni will respectively star as Lily and Ryle, whose romance devolves into domestic violence. “I think that Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively have what it takes to bring these characters to life and I cannot wait for you guys to see that happen,” Hoover said in an Instagram video announcing the news. “I’m going to do my best to sneak y’all as much footage as I can without getting kicked off the set. I’m so excited, y’all.”

Hoover is currently the highest-selling novelist in the U.S., writing five of the top 10 bestselling books of any genre last year, with over 20 million books sold. “It Ends With Us” ended 2022 as the top-selling print book and has been on the New York Times’ bestseller list for over 90 weeks. Baldoni and Wayfarer have been working closely with Hoover as a consultant on the film.

The film is in development at Sony Pictures, with Baldoni set to direct and executive produce under his Wayfarer Studios banner, which is co-financing. Lively is also executive producing alongside Hoover, Steve Sarowitz and Andrew Calof. Alex Saks will produce for Saks Picture Company, along with Jamey Heath who will produce on behalf of Wayfarer Studios. Christy Hall (“I Am Not Okay With This”) penned the current screenplay and is also set to produce.

Colleen Hoover’s 2016 novel, It Ends With Us, has more than 200,000 ratings on Amazon, averaging 4.5 out of 5 stars. And the story is now on its way to the big screen. In an Instagram video posted Thursday, Hoover revealed that Blake Lively will play Lily Bloom, a small-town florist, and Justin Baldoni will play Ryle, the neurosurgeon with whom she falls in love. Baldoni is also directing the film. No release date was given.

After becoming a “BookTok” cultural phenomenon with more than 2 billion views on her TikTok hashtag, Hoover currently is the best-selling novelist in the U.S., with over 20 million books sold, and she wrote five of the 10 bestselling print books of any genre in 2022. Published in 43 languages, It Ends With Us was the top-selling print book of 2022, has been on the New York Times Best Seller List for over 90 weeks.

According to the book’s synopsis, It Ends With Us “follows a girl named Lily who has just moved and is ready to start her life after college. Lily then meets a guy named Ryle and she falls for him. As she is developing feelings for Ryle, Atlas, her first love, reappears and challenges the relationship between Lily and Ryle.”
